Rut
and Al Crockett (A.C.), were both born and raised in Boston, Massachussetts.
They first met at a coffee house/Punk Rock show at Umass in Amherst
back in 1991. Rut's band "Hydapipe 64" and Al's band "Bugjuice"
both played that night. They formed a cool and close friendship from
that day and often jammed out in basements in and around the Allston/Amherst
areas of Boston. In 1994 they met up with Bass player Rachel Kerner
at one of her famous parties on Beacon Street in Boston. Influenced
by the early music of Husker Du, The Cure and early PJ Harvey they decided
to form a band and named themselves after an obscure 1936 Louis L'Amour
Western pulp novel "Ambush at Junction Rock".

The
band subsequently played at parties and basements in and around the
Boston area and quickly gained themselves a small but loyal following
consisting firstly of friends into cool Lo-Fi punk rock and then other
musicians hungry for influences for their own musical adventures. The
bands popularity gained momentum and they set themselves up in a Basement
in Linden Street, Allston, where Rut resided and set up a 4-Track recorder
and churned out tune after tune of the melodic, angst-ridden Lo-Fi rock
music that they loved. The band released a couple of singles on "cassette
only" format, featuring songs culled from their frenetic songwriting
schedule. The cassettes became popular amongst the bands growing legion
of fans and quickly sold out and are now collectable and sought after.

By 1998 the band had ceased playing regularly and temporarily decided to split to pursue their academic interests. Rachel decided to leave and concentrate on her schooling. But the team of A.C. and Rut eventually got back together and continued to grind away new material. Eventually after recruiting Bassisit Ana Crowley they started gigging again and have an overload of decent tunes in the can. Although Ana has since left the band and Rachel occasionally rejoins them, Ambush are still at large and ready as ever to rock out at venues near you sometime in the near future. A planned trip to the UK is in the pipeline, with a possible tour lined up. The
band have just release a 12 track CD called "Stand Your Ground"
and it is being received warmly on both sides of the atlantic. See
the Discography page on this site for more
detailed information of their back catalogue. |
